"Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time"
My name is Laura Hoynck van Papendrecht (1986) and I am a visual artist from the Netherlands.
After several years of taking painting classes and one year of studying at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy I decided to take some time to experiment with different techniques and media and to discover what really inspires me. I quit my classes and got rid of all ideas about what art should be like. To me, the most important thing when it comes to making art, is having fun and experiment. I enjoy the little accidents that occur during the process and the way they can totally change the direction of the piece I am working on.
When I am walking down the street I am always looking for interesting spots, colors, textures and details around me. I take pictures and decide whether a picture is the right medium for the subject or whether I want to manipulate it, paint it, combine it, etc.
I love the endless possibilities there are to transform something that inspires me into a piece of art. I do not like to limit myself by one theme, medium, size, color range or.. you name it. I am way too curious for that...
That's why I experiment untill I am satisfied with the result and fascinated by it.
